Wild raccoons are very curious and intelligent animals. Dog toys made to challenge a dog work just as well with wild raccoons. Some dog toys are designed to hide a treat inside. I purchased multiple toys like this and hid some of the raccoons favorite foods inside. I hid cookies, peanuts, and marshmallows. I attached the toys to ropes, bungee cords, and wood. About 20 raccoons showed up to play. They used their hands and teeth to get at the tasty treats. Watch them pull at large rubber balls and stand tall while trying to solve a problem. Unlike others who feed wild animals, I like to challenge mine with enrichment activities. Each week is a new challenge to overcome. These wild raccoons are the happiest and smartest around. Many of these raccoons eat from my hands, allow me to pet and brush them, and play with me.
Please do not attempt this! I've developed friendships with many wild raccoons over many years. I know them individually and can anticipate their behavior. Many jurisdictions discourage feeding wild animals. If you are already feeding wild animals please consider providing them with enrichment games along with the food.
